At an event in London this week, Acer revealed its 2009 series of laptops. Although the range was shown off in New York earlier in April, UK pricing has been unavailable. Until now.

The most talked-about machine on show was the company's latest 'netbook' – the Acer Aspire 751.

Why the single quotes over 'netbook'? Well, as it boasts an 11.6-inch screen, some have argued that the 751 is out of netbook territory, but Acer assures us that, regardless of screen size, it sees netbooks as "computers you use for content consumption and not creation".

With its Intel Atom processor, the 751 is firmly in content consumption territory.

Big battery

The 11.6-inch Aspire One comes with a 160GB internal hard drive and a multi-in-one card reader.

The computer is just one-inch thick, has a full keyboard and a multi-track keypad, so you can pinch and zoom to your heart's content.

Impressively, the netbook boasts battery life of up to an unprecedented nine hours. The only caveat with this is that you will have to purchase a six-cell battery to get these sort of times. Without the six-cell battery, it's around five hours.

The 751 comes with Windows XP Home only, is priced from £349, and will be out mid-May.

Branding company Millward Brown Optimor has published its fourth annual BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands survey, which ranks Google as the most valuable brand in the world, and worth $100,039,000,000. How can they be so exact? The company explains how it reached the figure: "The dollar value of each brand in the ranking is the sum of all future earnings that brand is forecast to generate, discounted to a present day value." Fujitsu is having some serious problems. The company today announced in Tokyo (press release in English) it swung into a net loss of a whopping $1.1 billion in net loss in the fiscal year that ended March 31. Sales fell 12% to $46 billion in the same time frame.

Fujitsu booked a net profit of $480 million in the previous fiscal year. The company specifically blames weak sales of computers, HDDs, electronic parts and microchips for gadgets for the new numbers.

Three things are especially remarkable. First, Fujitsu sales nosedived from October to December in particular. Second, the company said in January net loss will not exceed $200 million (who is doing the accounting work there?). Third, the company sees a brighter future as early as the current fiscal year, expecting sales of $48 bilion and a net profit of $200 million.

A Tokyo-based company, Century has rolled out a netbook stand that doubles as a DVD super multi-drive, so you can watch DVD’s and burn files on your netbook. This portable device supports DVD±R/+RW (8x), DVD±R DL/-RW (6x), DVD-RAM (5x) and CD-R/-RW (24x), and it measures 260mm x 190mm x 19mm and weighs in at 524g. Softbank has recently launched a hi-resolution picture of their cool series of lacquered cases. The picture above shows six iPhone cases that are 100% hand-made. Measuring 180 x 80 x 20mm, this compact size MID integrates an ultra wide LCD touchscreen that boasts of OLED technology, a 47 buttons QWERTY keyboard, a trackball and powered by an Intel Atom processor. In addition, this sexy slider also comes with two USB slots, a microphone, an audio input, an SD card reader, stereo speakers and a docking connector. Unfortunately, it’s just a concept at this stage, but who knows it might come into production someday, hope so!
