Compal is one of those companies you don’t hear that much about in the US, because the company doesn’t stamp its name on products. But Taiwanese-based Compal makes notebook and cellphone hardware for some of the biggest computer makers. Now DigiTimes reports that Compal is interested in building a netbook that will run the Google Android operating system.
According to the report, Compal doesn’t have a distributor for this netbook yet, and is shopping the idea around to notebook vendors. So in other words, we have no idea if and when these netbooks would make it to market. But it’s yet another indication that at least some hardware makers are interested in seeing Android make the jump from a cellphone-only operating system to a full desktop OS.
