Samsung N510 reaches Europe early

samsung_n510Samsung’s latest netbook, the N510, isn’t supposed to be out until October, so that it can coincide with Windows 7. So it’s a bit of a surprise to see that some jammy fellers on the continent have got the first hands-on, in-the-wild pics of the Samsung N510. Read on for the full details.

The Samsung N510 isn’t quite like other netbooks. Apart from being pretty big for an ultra-portable at 11.6-inches, it also packs a brand new graphics chipset. The NVIDIA Ion is a new graphics processor which has been specially designed for low power computers.

NVIDA reckons it offers ten times the performance of a similar system. That means 1080p HD video will be possible on your netbook without being reduced to a stuttering crawl, and the Samsung N510 even packs an HDMI output to turn it into a fully fledged multimedia hub.

A good test of these new graphic features is going to be how well it handles Windows 7 and its eye-catching interface, but of course we won’t know how well that‘s shaping up until Windows 7 actually launches on October 22. However, the versions out now in Germany and Italy are running Vista and scoring about a 3.7 on the Windows Aero graphics rating – not a bad start at all.

The prices in Europe are set at 499 Euros (around £430) which seems like a heck of a lot to pay for a netbook, but not bad for a portable, full HD video player.
